All you penny pinching makeup loving ladies, this one is for you!
High end makeup is out of my price range. But sometimes, you feel like treating yourself. But guess what? Lux can come at a lower price.
1- Shop for makeup at department stores like Lord and Taylor and Macy’s when they offer gifts with purchase
Here’s an example. Lord and Taylor almost always (check first before you buy, however) runs a deal with brands like Clinique where if you spend around $30 on Clinique products you get a makeup bag full of Clinique deluxe sample products for free. In general, you get 75-100 dollars worth of makeup and skincare in these bags. All of my clinique products have come from these bags, as my family occasionally has to repurchase their favorite moisturizer from Clinique. They get the large size, which costs about thirty bucks. Then, we split the makeup.
Here’s a bag I got recently:
Normally the bags come with more product, but I’m still pleased with this bag. We’ve got the Clinique Long Last Lipstick in All Heart, the Clinique High Impact Mascara, Clinique All About Shadow Quad with the shades Olive in My Martini, At Dusk, Lemongrass and Teddy Bear, Clinique repair wear laser focus, the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion + and the Clinique liquid mild facial soap. Not to mention you get the large and mini makeup bags that match the eyeshadow case.
This bag was not my favorite of the ones I’ve gotten, but still a nice value nonetheless.
2- Sephora Favorites Kits
Want to try several different brands of products at once and only pay the price of one item? You want one of these. Sephora comes out with new ones and replaces the old ones roughly twice a year, sometimes more. Here’s a kit I got two years ago for $25 dollars. I apologize that it looks sort of gross; as I said, its not new.
We’ve got a Bite Lipshine, Fresh Sugar Tinted Lip Balm, Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss, Laura Mercier Lip Glace, ephora Glossy Gloss and a Tarte Lipsurgence Natural Matte Lip Tint. Several of these products are full size, and the rest are close to it.
The Sephora Favorites line has specialized kits for eyes or lips, for example, and kits with an assortment of products. They also have face, skin and perfume kits. A bonus of the fragrance kits is several of them come with a free voucher for the full roller ball size or full size perfume of your choice, depending on the kit. Read kit descriptions for details on Sephora’s site.
3- Birthdays and Rewards
Sephora has a rewards program where each $1 you spend is a point. These points add up over time and can be redeemed for free makeup. But, I don’t spend enough for this. However, if you are a member of this free program, you get a free birthday gift! Last year’s gift was a deluxe size Benefit They’re Real Mascara and Watts Up! highlighter. This year, you can claim a free deluxe size mini of Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick and Smoky Extravagant Mascara. If you spend enough to be VIB Rouge member then you get a third product.
But of course, the ultimate tip is shop for drugstore dupes! For many products, there is no reason to spend extra money when there is a cheaper drugstore version. Check out Temptalia or search Google for dupes.
