Review: Let’s Get Lost by Adi Alsaid

Fasten your seat belts for this wild read. (Pun totally intended!)

Disclaimer: I did read an advanced readers copy of this book however I received this at a book event in September, after the book was published.

Short and Sweet Summary:
Leila is on a road trip to the Northern Lights, all by herself. But along the way, she makes friends, has her heart broken, and has a hell of a lot of fun. The book is divided into sections based on who Leila meets, and chapters within these sections.

So basically, all you can expect from this book is to have fun.

And boy,  did it deliver.

I felt like I was on a road trip. My life is pretty boring, which is probably why I read books. But my life didn’t feel boring when I read this. I felt like a wild teenager on a road trip that I won’t get in trouble for since I wasn’t actually on it. Leila and her road trip adventures are a ton of fun, and honestly a breath of fresh air. Leila is encouraging and all about living the moment. Don’t wait to get the guy/girl; life is too short.

Don’t be mistaken; this is no meaningless road trip. This is a road trip about finding yourself and making both a physical and mental journey from start to finish. Along the way, Leila changes the lives of random strangers, and each stranger makes an impact on her too.You can really see this book has a lot of meaning to the author.

However, I do have a couple critiques.
Why do none of the parents in this book care about anything, aside from the teens eventually returning home!?! For example, Leila’s parents? Hudson’s Dad?

But hey, if parents got involved, this book wouldn’t exist and I want this book to exist!

Bonus points for the book having one of the cutest book covers of 2014. I mean actually, I gave my mom a hearty speech about how in a dream world I’d have the book cover framed or displayed it’s that beautiful. (I swear I’m normal!) The postcards between sections are also an adorable touch! Aesthetically, this YA novel is nearly perfect.

Thanks, Adi; now I want to take a road trip too!
(But realistically, next stop, the library!!)

I give Let’s Get Lost by Adi Alsaid a 4.5/5 stars for being a fun, feel-good read that still managed to have meaning.

The Beauty of Books TAG!

So for all you book loving gals, I decided to make this tag. I don’t think this tag exists already, and it isn’t based off of anything I’ve seen before, so here you are; a tag I created for blogs and booktube.

Because this blog is about books and beauty, I thought it was fitting to create a tag that combines the two!

The Questions:

Eyeliner: Tell us about a book that defines who you are or that means a lot to you personally, and then show us your favorite eyeliner.
Mascara: You can’t leave the house without mascara. It brightens your eyes and makes you look more awake after a night of not-so-much sleep. What’s one book you stayed up late to read? Then, show us your favorite mascara.
Lip Balm: The best lip balms are sweet and smooth. Give us a sweet, easy read. Then, show us your favorite lip balm.
Concealer: A book you are embarrassed to say you’ve read or own.
Nail Polish: Nail polish is like an accessory. Show us a book with a beautiful cover. Then, show us what is on your nails, if anything.
Sunscreen: Sunscreen goes hand in hand with the beach. Show us a book that takes place at or near a beach. Also, what are your favorite beach reads?
Makeup Remover: Sometimes the look you create is disappointing, so you break out the makeup remover to clear the evidence. What is a book you wanted to like that ended up disappointing you?

And of course, if you’d like, what makeup are you wearing today?

I tag all of YOU to do this tag! Get this tag spreading ladies!
If you do the tag, link to your post in the comments below so I can see!! πŸ™‚

Vacation Days 4 & 5 Recap!

All of the photos below were taken by me.

This was a pretty eventful two days to recap. You are in luck πŸ™‚

I hate making excuses but since I took the photos of the following beach on a digital camera that is now (temporarily) out of service, I have to post a pretty badly composed photo taken on a cell phone. *sigh*

image

But anyway, we love that beach because it is an ocean beach that is suitable for surfing and body boarding, etc.

Then we stopped for some souvenirs. I bought some gifts for people at home so I won’t show them in case they are reading this post!

image

Do you see that donut with a bite taken out inflatable? I. Need. That.

image

And pretty much all of these.

Then we swam at a lake.

image

image

We then went to another beach where I read and finished The Symptoms of my Insanity by Mindy Raf.

image

But the best was saved for last…
We got nitrogen ice cream! (Ice cream made with Liquid Nitrogen)

The awesome thing about this place was that they make the ice cream, made to order, right in front of your eyes. Each day they make only 3 ish flavors, so you get something different every time! Tonight they served Cotton Candy, Maple Walnut, and Cake Batter.

I got cake batter flavor with oreos on top πŸ™‚

It was pricey, even for one scoop, but one is all you need. This is very dense, creamy, super fresh ice cream, so 1 scoop is more than your average one scoop.

So that’s my recap! Stay tuned for my bout of books recap later tonight!

Vacation Day 3 Recap!

Monday began with a tour of the Cape Cod Potato Chip Factory. I did this once about ten years ago but we wanted to see it as it is now.

image

image

Sadly, photography was not allowed inside.

The tour is free and at the end you get a free bag of chips! They were making the reduced fat ones that day so those were in the free bags. Let me tell you that they taste even better fresh.

But those weren’t enough for us, apparently, because we saw this cute little sampler set:

Then, we drove around and saw things like:
A giant elephant sculpture

image

Every year, we see these neat sand sculptures around the towns, but we drive by so fast its hard to get a good picture. These are both cropped pretty badly, but whatever.

image

image

And some more sweet stuff was found at a supermarket…

We then went to the beach in the evening. I will be bombarding my tumblr followers with some of the better photos I took here.

Lastly, can we appreciate the cuteness of this stuffed lobster and dolphin wearing hoodies?

I will recap today later this week! I took all of today’s pictures on a different device so I don’t have them with me.

I hope your week is going well!

It’s odd posting at night. If you are a follower of my blog, you know I tend to post in the morining. Not this week!

It’s only the first day of this readathon and I am in love! I’ve had an excuse to read as much as I want while still taking full advantage of my vacation. I also completed both of today’s challenges and had a lot of fun.

Books completed: 1
Books started: 3

Finished book: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
Currently Reading:

As you can see, I took it to the beach!
